How do I know when it is time for hospice care?
Patients are eligible for hospice care when they been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness with a prognosis of six months or less and choose comfort care and symptom management rather than curative treatment.
Who Pays for Hospice Services?
Patients are eligible for Hospice Services through:
- Medicare and HMO Medicare (Part A)
- Medicaid and HMO Medicaid
- Contracted Private Insurances
Hospice services are covered 100% by Medicare, Medicare HMO & Nevada Medicaid and Medicaid HMO. Some commercial insurance require co-pays or deductibles.
Where is Hospice Care Provided?
Hospice care is provided in the setting that best meets the needs of each patient family. Most commonly that is the patient’s home; however, hospice care can also be provided in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, group homes and hospitals.
Can My Pain and Symptoms be controlled at Home?
Yes. Pain and other symptoms can often be controlled at home. A 1Care Hospice nurse can be reached 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
Can I Go Back to the Hospital and Still Receive Hospice Care?
Yes. Many symptoms that would normally require hospitalization or an emergency room visit can be successfully managed at home by the hospice team, thus preventing the stress of hospitalization. However, if admitted to the hospital , the 1Care Hospital team will coordinate with the hospital to insure you get home as soon as you are able.
Does Hospice Provide 24-hour In-Home Care?
No. However, team members are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer questions or visits anytime the need arises. The hospice team also teaches family and caregivers the skills necessary to care for the patient.
